The Eiffel Tower project

Prominent buildings #2

a) Grand Palais / Petit Palais

You may remember me mentioning the "Grand Palais" before; it dragged my attention when working with the first version of my terrain, and I planned to model it someday.

Having finished my "Scenery master plan" I thought the time was right.

Next to the Grand Palais there's the Petit Palais, and both buildings give a nice, impressive ensemble:

b) The Invalides

On the opposite side of the River Seine you'll find the "Hôtel des Invalides" which used to be a residential for disabled soldiers in the former times. It includes a cathedral where Napoleon Bonaparte is buried. The cathedral itself seems to be one of the highest buidings in Paris (100 m), therefor it stands out of the skyline. So I thought it would be a nice eyecatcher:

Both ensembles are linked by a huge boulevard including Pont Alexandre III:

I couldn't resist doing some halfway seriuos renders presenting this ensemble of landmarks. For not abstracting from those attractions I used some clay material for the surrounding OSM houses:

Pardon me: I love those renders! Although not meant to be too photorealistic I think they are quite impressive.
Compared with my former modellings I didn't increase the level of detail essentially, but adding some few jutties and window frames helped a lot!

c) Tour Montparnasse and Gare Montparnasse

Both buildings as well stand out of the skyline, but honestly speaking I don't like them too much. Especially the Tour Montparnasse looks dark and gloomy; lots of Paris' people call it "ugly", and a joke says that you may have the best view over Paris from its top - mainly because you needn't see the Tour itself from there ;-)

The Gare turned out to be quite interesting indeed - it's surrounded by skyscrapers and includes some public greenery on the rooftop. Planting trees there seemed to be quite ambitious due to statics, so they used some pillars between the train platforms as basements.

Anyway I thought these large, high buildings will be dominant in some of my renders as well, so I'd rather prefer using a version modelled by myself instead of some OSM stuff. They might not be really attractive but are eyecatchers as well.

The park on Gare's rooftop is called "Jardin Atlantique". It was planned originally in last century's sixties when the whole building was constructed but for some reason was created in 1994 only. It seems to follow some well-defined logical structure, includes some pavillons, tennis courts and a kind of fountain in its center.
I tried to follow the plannings here and have been curious how my personal Jardin Atlantique would work in some renders:

d) UNESCO building and more

Once more some quite large buidings I'd expect to dominate my renders - especially because they're located directly beyond the Ecole Militaire. Have a look: (from left to right) ministry of health, ministry of data privacy and UNESCO headquarter.

Again let's have some renders:
